Skepticism

Curiosity is beneficial but can lead to being gullible.

It’s important to keep an open mind as you definitely want to be sure to not overlook solutions or benefits, but you want to be able to easily distinguish what you want from what you don’t while maintaining default skepticism.

One good way to do this is to develop skills related to comparison.

Being able to compare and contrast things allows you to differentiate them.

Another is to develop an appreciation for the types of offers tend to appear near each other.

In a city, you tend to see similar types of businesses together because of zoning rules (for purposes of this example, we’re deliberately omitting racism historically involved with zoning). In a city, certain types of businesses are near each other and other similarly-zoned businesses. With things like ideas and offers and scams, it’s quite common for those to attract similar types. As the saying goes, “Birds of a feather flock together.”
